L4 Spectator Safety Management – Course Details

Part 1: Classroom Phase

During the classroom phase of the course students will be taught about the safety officer role and how to plan for and manage spectator safety. Students will be given the opportunity to explore ideas and use the tools and techniques they have been taught.

Subjects include:

  • Risk analysis and management
  • Crowd dynamics
  • Capacity calculation
  • Event safety planning
  • Contingency and emergency planning
  • Working in Safety Advisory Groups
  • Legislation, safety certification and licensing

During the course students will be supported and encouraged to start to complete the knowledge workbooks required at phase 2 (though this is not compulsory).

At the end of the course students will be provided with a personal USB memory stick containing PDF’s of the course materials, videos and a library of useful guidance documents.

Part 2: Assessment Phase

During the assessment phase students will collect naturally occurring evidence from their workplace which will be assessed by their allocated assessor.

The assessor will also identify means to capture any additional evidence requirements and conduct two workplace observations. Students have up to two years to complete this phase, though it can easily be managed in 3-6 months.

Phase 1 date: TBC

Venue: TBC

Course Capacity: Maximum 12 students

Assessment: Within 2 years of registration with SFJ, the awarding body for this qualification.

A timetable for completion will be agreed with the assessor, ensuring it is appropriate to the pace at which the candidate plans to work.
